Canadian Healthcare Provider Cuts Costs and Creates Jobs

Ithaca, New York—The Atlantic Health Sciences Corporation (AHSC), a New Brunswick-based healthcare provider, was awarded the Canadian Information Productivity Award (CIPA) last month in Toronto for innovative and effective use of information technology. AHSC was recognized for consolidating and standardizing healthcare food production at 12 New Brunswick facilities spread out over a 120-mile radius. AHSC uses CBORD systems for management of its foodservices. Through a year-long cooperative effort, AHSC has cut costs dramatically and added jobs to the local economy.

"The complete re-engineering of foodservices has cut operating costs by more than $1 million on a total budget of $8.5 million," said Elaine Robichaud, manager of Alliance Food Systems, AHSC’s foodservice division. "In addition, this program has proven to be a boon to the local New Brunswick economy with the creation of more than 40 new jobs."

Robichaud credits CBORD, the Ithaca, New York-based foodservice software company, with providing the foodservice automation system that made this feat possible. "The setup of the system was the reason we won the award," Robichaud explained. "The greatest benefit of the CBORD system is the powerful ability to share information between facilities. The system really provides consistency for patient service."

With a team of 15 foodservice and software professionals, CBORD oversaw the project ensuring AHSC’s needs were met.
